In April, PRNewswire revealed that Concord Steel Inc. was awarded a contract to provide steel counterweights for all 71 elevators that will be installed by ThyssenKrupp ELevator, in the Freedom Tower, at One World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City. The 800,000-pound order is the largest in Concord Steel's history for steel counterweights which are used to hoist heavy loads such as elevators and cranes. One World Trade Center is the main building of the new WTC. The tower will serve as a beacon for the skyline, reaching 1,776 ft. It will be located in the northwest corner of the 16-acre site. Construction began in April 2006 and is expected to be completed in 2013. Concord Steel Inc. is one of the leading independent manufacturers of steel counterweights and structual weldments, with manufacturing plants in Warren, Ohio, Essington, Pennsylvania and Chicago Heights, Illinois. Concord Steel Inc. traces its history back 85 years and has focused on counterweights for the last 35 years.
